Away I go
On September 17, 2003, I (Tim Berezny) will be leaving this wonderful
country of Canada and departing for Togo West Africa. If I can,
I will try and keep an updated log on this site of what's happening
over there for anybody who wants to know.
I am a volunteer with Canadian Crossroads International, and I
will be doing computer training as well as some project management
and basic website design in Togo. Don't ask me any more than that,
cause that's all I know... really. It could easily be entirely different
when I get there. I have heard stories of people going to do computer
training, and then there are no computers there until four months
into their internship!
Togo has a population of about 4.5 million. It is very poor, even
by African standards. As with most African nations, it is ravaged
by Aids. The capital city is Lomé which is on the coast.
I will be in Kpalimé, which is about 60km north of the capital.
As of right now, I'm at the cottage, enjoying life. Most of the
paperwork and vaccinations are complete, but I still have to raise
$600 of $1000 for the trip. I also have to get Malaria medication
and various similar things, which I will do in the near future.
Anyway, keep coming' back and I'll try to keep everyone posted!
