Introduction
Background to the programme: Although primary agricultural production is the backbone of Ghana’s economy, growth in primary agriculture itself alone cannot sufficiently eradicate poverty, create adequate opportunities for rural employment and enhance food security. Alternative and complementary income generating opportunities need to be created to support the disadvantaged farming communities across the country. Agro- processing presents a viable complementary role to improving the livelihood of many urban and rural communities in Ghana. In spite of the enormous potential of food and crop processing to generate employment and enhance food security there are major constraints to the development and growth of the sector.
